Zoie's play/Overnighter with Arya and Vance

Need to get a couple pix from Carrie. She has some dandies from after the play yesterday.
Little Miss Arya spreading her sunshine. She loves hiding in her house behind the recliners. She uses the balloons as doors, stuffing them in the opening.

Vance needed a bigger helmet. Pa had to adjust the goggles so Vance could see and most importantly, breath. Little noses and goggles can be a challenge to align. The thumbs up indicates all's well. It was a cold ride, but they saw an eagle and plowed through the mud. Life is good.

A weekend with Zoie and Arya

We had a marvelous weekend. Vance, Carrie and Nana were in Auburn for a speed skating meet. Bill and I were lucky to have the girls from Fri to Mon. This first pic is of Arya getting her beauty treatment. Bill, as a man got by without any "treatment." Me, well anyone that knows me, knows that "the treatment" is in short supply. I did get my nails polished, for the first time in so many years I can't even venture a guess.

We were able to spend sometime at the Breazeale Center. The girls got to see the octopus. It's basically nocturnal, so we didn't see a lot of movement.

Then Off to the Mc D's for some entertainment and not so good food. Know what I mean?

Another wonderful time at Dunbar. The first pic is great, as the kids were not into a trio pic, but ready to rip and tear. Love Zoie and Vance's forced smiles. They were gracious. Carrie gave us a copy of a book she had made in memory of Ty. It's a pictorial of the time she and the kids spent with him. An amazing gift of love from a gracious lady. .

Nana bought Arya her first skates. She was awed by the pink wheels.

The closing pix were a hoot. Love Arya's break away as if to say, "Are we done already?"

Happy Birthday and welcome to Medicare. In the morning we went to see The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Both of us have read the trilogy and reallythought the movie was excellent. Not for everyone, but we loved it. Here are a few pix from a marvelous evening dinner provided by Jan and Bob. UPS delivered a styrofoam package from Maine with two awesome meals---lobster, shrimp, scallops, mussels, small potatoes and corn on the cob. Holy moly, it was awesome. Thanks.

Arya and the Breazeale Interpretive Center

We had a fun time taking Arya to the Center. We spent an hour and a half before she was ready to go. This was a surprise for Bill and I, since our visits with Zoie and/or Vance would be finished in about 30 minutes. She loved the interactive sites. You can see the new octopus next to Arya's right shoulder.

We ended with rock chuckin' into Padilla Bay.

Vance's 5th birthday party

Vance watching Connor as everyone sang Happy Birthday. He was really excited to have cousin Connor at his party.

Vance's birthday started at the Burlington Fire Dept for a pancake breakfast and crawling all over the fire engines. This has been a tradition now for about three years. Could a boys birthday get any better? Then in the late afternoon over to the McLean Fire Dept for a spaghetti feed. (Vance passes on the sauce, lol) Afterwards we headed back to the Dunbar house for cake and ice cream and of course the present opening. There are a couple pix of Vance and cousin Ken playing video games on I believe iPods. When they were sitting side by side, during a racing game, they'd lean simultaneously left and right and tip the iPods left and right together. It was hysterical.

Actually this was the second pic, but it deserves first placement. As I was leaving Mom's, the cell rang and it was Drew. By the time I got home he and his dad were already at the house. We had a great visit. Crazy stories from the past, was the reason for the lineup.

What a great day. Pete brought the kids up for an afternoon of fun. We had a picnic lunch and then it was quad time. Connor had it down in now time. Kaelin was a great passenger. Marvelous fun had by all.

During our day with Pete and the kids, Bill mentioned we'd like to add a full sized quad one day. Well, it just so happened that at the dealership, someone had brought in exactly what we were thinking about. So, the next pic is Bill and Vance on our "new to us" quad. I love it. It flies.

Until the night of this bath, Vance didn't want bubbles or the tub jets turned on. That has changed and of course the bubbles went haywire with the jet action.

When Vance decided to ride
the quad solo, Pa bought him new helmet.

So, not to let Little Missy out, we took her shopping. Bill took Zoie school shopping and Vance got a new helmet. This little girl had everyone on ear shot at JC Penney's listening as she helped pick out her new clothes.

We bought her a package of panties, since she'd been showing everyone that she was about ready to do the potty thing. She'd listen to and go for Zoie. Go figure. Once she made up her mind, it was a done deal. She even does the "big job" on the toilet and not hide behind the couch or sneak off to another room, like her sis and bro used to. Congrats Arya.

Tonight, Bill took Zoie school shopping. We thought it would be great to keep up the tradition Ty started when Zoie started school. So, Pa and Zoie shopped and then went to Sukora's for dinner. Zoie put on a fashion show when they returned to the farm. She was totally thrilled with her clothes and you'll notice the PINK theme.

The clothes are cute. She also talked Pa into a makeup kit. She said she had to ask twice before Pa gave in. Wily little rascal.

Wow, it's hard to believe, but our big girl just turned 7.

Vance needed some face time too.

Zoie's birthday request to us was, "I want dress up stuff." So, a couple wigs and a high school musical costume and she was in her glory.

After we practiced the art of stopping, more important than going, I turned him loose. He was so proud of himself. This video was taken after a couple laps. Auntie Terry sent a kite package. Thanks Auntie Terry. Yesterday Pa had a dental appointment. The wind was perfect, so Vance, Arya and I figured it was time to put a few of the kites up. The purple one had a 20' tail and looked awesome. Then we launched the macaw and the panda. They sailed beautifully.

On our way to the water, Arya made sure I went into the boathouse to see the baby birds.

This was decision time. Vance wanted to walk out to the water, but the tide was out quite far. Carrie encouraged him to go ahead and give it a try. He was a little nervous at first. Arya watched for a while, then----

During the thinking period, she found lots of shells and wanted a pic with each one.

While picking up shells, she kept a watchful eye on big brudder.

Arya hit the tipping point, but only tipped to get her hands in the muck. Carrie had to go out and retrieve her.

On the climb back to the top, Vance stopped by the tree house that Auntie Noree, Benjamin and Jonathon built a few years ago.

Last night we went to the Skagit Speedway. Ty, Zoie and Vance went with us. I'd been building up the demolition derby. Of course, it was about the last event, but that's what we were there for, right? Well, it was about 10, the races were finished and they started setting up the derby area. Of course, I/we were a bit stunned that it was pretty puny. Then we only saw two cars come out. What??? Then the announcement that the other two cars couldn't make it off the truck. What??? It was pretty pathetic, but Vance liked it, only because there were cars crashing into one another and he didn't know any better. So BOO HISS Skagit Speedway for the big advertising build up. Holy cow, what would have happened if one of the two remaining cars croaked before the actual start-----

Vance went home with Ty and Zoie spent the night. This morning, she wanted to walk the dogs. I have some pix. For the most part it went well, but it isn't as easy as one would guess, lol.

On our ride home Tuesday, the cell said, "Droid." It kind of shocked me, since we were up around Ross and Diablo Reservoir's. Usually no cell service there. A text came in from Carrie. We knew about her interview with Burlington-Edison High School before we headed to Winthrop. While gone, she was offered and took a math teaching position with her alma mater. Zoie will be transferring to West View, right next to the high school. West View is a dual language school and Zoie is excited to work on her Spanish skills. Vance also had to agree, because he'll also be going there when he starts school. So, congratulations to Carrie and good luck to Zoie on her adventure at a new school.

What a great day. We picked up the kids from the bus stop. Glorious sun and warmed to play outside. We rode the motorcycle and quad out and about on field roads. We had a ball. Then it was time to really learn about the trike/wagon that followed Pa home on Saturday. Big brother really was careful while giving little sis a ride. Carrie came to pickup Arya at about 2. Vance had called last night about spending the night, but we weren't sure. This is the first time for him to do a solo. So far so good. He is a sweet and priceless little man.

To end the speed skating season, Carrie took Vance to the Regional event in Portland. For his first year, he did fantastic, especially being the youngest on the team. He'll be off for the summer, then ready to rejoin the team and his "friends." Way to go Vance.

that's ChuckE of course. We knew Ty and Carrie would be running late tonight, so while Pa and Vance ran the mower, Arya and I went to get Zoie off the bus. Back to the farm for some playtime and then to town. Luckily the pizza showed up about the time the token tank was about out. The kids had fun. Bill and I did too, just watching is so much fun. Arya is a chip off the Dunbar Gang block. Skills aren't honed, but that doesn't stop her from giving it a whirl.

Slinging those tokens takes a lot of energy and is hard work. Pizza and pop was just what the Dr ordered. Great day. Thanks Zoie, Vance and Arya for showing us a grand time.

I need to add a special "Thank You" to Zoie. Arya was determined to get into the tube/slide structure. She made it up the tiered latter portion, which appeared to be the biggest obstacle from my point of view. The curvy slide was within about six feet of where she was perched. All of a sudden she wanted out, but wasn't going down the slide and the latter was too scary. As she laid on her belly, her feet were within a couple inches of the lower step. Actually less than our bed which she readily slides off. There was no way I could make it too her, so Bill found "big sistor." Zoie crawled in and saved the day.

There were a couple large rocks close to our campsite. Arya gave me the ol', "Oma, I can do it myself " and climbed to her perch. Vance explored all the nooks and crannies. Zoie girl was in school.

On Wednesday morning I drove Nellie to Larrabee. Because of her size I had to go to Bellingham and then back down Chuckanut, Hwy 11. Bill loaded up Vance and Arya. By the time I got there, they had our site signed for and ready. The pix are after the fact. The weather has been pretty unforgiving, but we accomplished what was intended. Only a couple minor issues, so we are ready to go, if the weather gods would just lighten up and let us enjoy..............

Auburn skating and trip to Seattle Aquarium

This weekend was the Auburn Invitational Skating event. Ty and I headed there at o'dark thirty this morning. We just missed Carrie's event by about 10 minutes. Since there wasn't anything until the afternoon, Ty, uncle Paul, Zoie, Vance, Arya and I headed to the Seattle Aquarium. What a great place to spend time. The kids loved it. Before we headed back to Auburn we went to a marvelous little bakery/restaurant. Then off to the rink to watch Zoie and Carrie share their talents. It was awesome. Zoie had to compete in the primary bracket, against 7 and 8 year olds. She did fantastic. The outfit she wore was one of Carrie's. The music she skated to was what Carrie skated too, when she started out. Zoie was thrilled with her performance, as all of us were, imagine that. Carrie did great and will be ready for Portland.

Ty, Carrie and Vance went to Mt Baker today. Vance got his first whirl on skis. It was a gorgeous day. Ty took the day off. Vance made it to the top of the 8th lift, the highest one. He skied down with only two crashes. Both Dad and Mom were really proud of him.

It was fun to have the girls for the day. Zoie spent the night. Arya was dropped off this morning and it seems she really liked to have a day here with her big sis.

The afternoon movie was watched in out bedroom. Arya tried to mimic everything big sis did.

This was the original look. All the flowers and burgundy draped material was too much for me. It was a factor in spending a lot of time on the road checking out other units. Bill and I tore it apart and now we're delighted to share the face lift results.

Love the new look. Thanks to Carrie for Bill's gorgeous quilt. Bill decided it was perfect in here and he's right.

I have to run to town and find some new parts for the bottom of the shades, then they'll be level and work properly.

Bill installed the new tracked shower curtain. Was great to toss the old nasty one that was there. This one is taller so Bill only has to duck a bit to get in.

Gramma brought out pizza. Zoie wasn't up to par, so we had a grand day with the entire crew.

Arya loves wearing her Dutch klompen. When we went to Gramma Alice to pick a pair, these really didn't make the cut. Since they were a better fit we brought them to the farm. Well, now they're the favorite pair. She walks on her toes like a ballet dancer and loves to dance on the kitchen floor.

Here are a few pix of our home on wheel. We're working on getting it presentable. Yes, elbow grease to clean it up and look good. We'll need to figure out throw rugs or something to keep the girls from skidding from side to side or up and under the dash when the brakes are applied. We're ahead of our planned schedule, but I think we'll enjoy the added room in the meantime. We're planning an excursion to the East Coast in the Fall of 2012, visiting family along the way and see the sights too. It's a hoot to drive. You sit up high and with the huge windows, you can see forever.

Tonight we had a grand gathering at Sakura's. Along with the wonderful entertainment by our chef, we had Zoie. Gramma Alice, Great Great Aunties Sharon and Terry were there to enjoy the evening. Seeing Sakura's thru the eyes of a six year old was awesome. We all had a ball. Thank you Zoie.

A great Wednesday

Yesterday was grand. Although Zoie had to have Ty pick her up from school. Fever and what appears to be a jimdandy of a cold. Vance has been working on writing his name. We did have to overcome the issue that just because he can spell names and words on the computer/XBOX, he has to be able to write. Carrie enlightened the process by connecting numbers, then just using dots. Yesterday as we were ready to practice, I asked him to make a V. He did. Then I asked the the A and so on. Little stink did it just fine as evidenced by the pix. When he completed Pa, he said he was done.

The wind was honkin' and blew over the pink pig in the front yard. Arya was very concerned, so she and Pa went out to make things right.

Arya and Vance were a bit under the weather earlier in the week. On Wednesday Arya arrived with gorgeous braids. I don't know how Carrie does it, but she was cute as the dickens.

Wednesday morning Vance was perking on all eight cylinders. He was hungry, just look at his plate. He almost cleaned his plate completely. Afterwards he chose to wash his dishes.

We're very proud of Vance and his results in Bremerton. Vance was the only four year old participating. He placed 3rd in the first race and 4th in the last two. Vance and his family headed to Bremerton via the Seattle/Bremerton ferry. Can't wait to hear all about the ferry ride and the meet tomorrow when Vance and Arya arrive in the morning. Congrats Vance.

Missoula Children's Theatre at Zoie's school.

Today we were rewarded with the hard work put in this week by Zoie, her fellow students, staff, volunteer's and the Theatre group. Unfortunately, there weren't any mics, so much of the dialogue was missed. That being said, it was way too much fun. The production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was awesome, with only four days to rehearse and present. They requested no picture taking during the performance, so these are afterwards. Pa handled the breakfast this morning. Yummy crepes and sausage patties. Tillie, the chow hound is at the ready under the table, just in case a morsel hits the floor. The kids are really handy at the table and rarely does Tillie get rewarded for her patience.

While Arya was down for her nap, Bill and the kids headed out to play. It was clear, but rather crisp. By the time they came back, Zoie needed hot chocolate and the toasty corn bag to warm up her feet.
On their way back from tossing rocks off the field bridge I was able to capture this. Vance was leading and getting away from Zoie. She really started to crank the pedals.

Here is Vance using a little trick from playing Forza3. Run your opponent off the track. As you can see, it distressed big sis. You can probably see the unhappy face.

Yesterday, Vance phoned and asked if Zoie could join him on his overnighter here. When all was said and done, we brought home the trio after Vance's speed skating practice. Got everyone down and we all had a good night. This morning Gramma Alice came out for a grand visit. She brought along a pizza and Neapolitan ice cream, so everyone got what they needed for dessert. We had so much fun. Gramma learned about Kerplunk, Hungry Hippo's and checkers. We all had fun. Thanks Gramma.

Happy Birthday Arya

Our baby is two. Arya is a happy little girl and rarely gets upset. Her birthday kinda was an ongoing thing for about 3 or 4 days. During the weekend prior she was in Auburn where she went bowling and a trip to the Seattle Aquarium. She was here the day after. I think her favorite thing was the Dora the Explorer bag we had her gifts in. You know, like the big box for most boys. We a candle lit lunch, a must lately and then brownies with candles. Luckily, big brother was able to help blow them out. Arya is quite the chatterbox and her vocabulary is awesome. She's obviously paying attention to everyone and everything.

Here she's lounging on her hippo chair, a hand me down from Zoie. It has a pocket on the front and she kept pulling and pointing at it and saying, "Five dollars. Five dollars." Geez, whatever happened to a quarter?

Vance's first speed skating meeting in Auburn.

We were up early this morning and out the door to Auburn. The first pic is from across the Auburn rink. Lots of people. It's been wet in WA, but the "sweat" humidity in the rink was thick and yes a bit smelly. We found our group and made our way to them. Vance looks so dang cute in his Skagit Speedster's uniform. Vance is in the Tiny Tot division which is 4 and 5 year olds. Vance was the only four year old participating against the "older" five year old boys, haha.

Zoie was by Nana. Arya wasn't letting go of Carrie, since Mom and Zoie were gone a few days this week. Vance and Dad stuck close to one another. I have mostly candid shots from the stands. No flashes indoors and I haven't worked to get nice pix without it. I loved how Ty kept Vance calm and pumped for the event.

Vance didn't appear nervous. I think more curious would be describe him better.

Arya was running out of steam. I couldn't resist this pic of her wearing her Dutch klompen. She loves them. If you've ever had a pair of wooden shoes on your feet you'll know why we are always amazed when she prances around walking on her toes.

Love the new scissor teeth on the bottom. Her top left tooth is just a couple days away from coming out.

Our dogs are not light weights and for some reason Zoie loves to tote them around. She's finally learned to pick them up properly, arm under rear end so they don't end up strangled.

Uno lesson for Gramma Alice

Friday, Gramma Alice brought out a Papa Murphy pizza for lunch. While it was baking, Vance wanted to teach Gramma how to play. I should have had a video of this. Vance did an excellent job of explaining the game. Gramma would give me "the look" now and then to check if the info was right. I loved watching Vance as he enjoyed being the "teacher."

At first Gramma didn't like laying her cards on the table, which almost had me rolling on the floor. I explained that Vance's hands aren't large enough to hold the cards and this game is about "a four year old," not the adults. Then she started to laugh. Gramma had to curb her competitive nature and learn some of the nuances of playing games with little kids. Vance knows how to play. Seeing all the cards, he also knows how to play the right card to mess with his opponent/s. They had a grand time and I was thrilled to watch Gramma Alice and Vance share this experience.

Solo time with Arya

This morning, Ty, Carrie, Zoie and Vance dropped off Arya for a solo event with the old fogies. They were on their way to go sledding. The plan was that they could work one on one and we could dote on this little charmer. After a short nap we ready to go outside. We really didn't have snow, but pea sized snowballs frozen on the ground. Not sure how to define it. Arya is wearing Dad's snowsuit from about 1972. I've written about this before, when Zoie wore it. Gramma Alice brought it back from Holland.

Pa got out the snow saucer. You can see by the look on Arya's face, she wasn't too sure about the situation. After a while she kinda warmed up to it, but really never thought it was a good plan.

We headed over to the mounds and the north side was perfect for a little ride.

She was a good sport and let the crazy adults lead her down the path one time and then she jumped off and did it her way. I love her spunk.

Snack time and later we did a candle light dinner. I think she liked it like her big sister.

Today we had a "surprise cookie party" for Pa. While Zoie was getting Bill, leading him with his eyes closed, Arya got a head start on cookies.

Bill bravely let Zoie lead him. She was thrilled.

Vance and Arya waited patiently for Pa to get the party started. Zoie loves to sing Happy Birthday. We were a little surprised that Vance joined in and knows most of the words. Way too cute.

By the end of yesterday, Arya was running on fumes, stayed up to get in on the popcorn.

Zoie and Vance perched in the bedroom. Then the sleeping angels. It was an amazing night. Arya and I slept upstairs in the bunks. Vance loved sleeping in Pa's big sleeping bag on the cot. Zoie held down the big bed with Pa. Both Bill and I are pleased to announce that our kids night was marvelous. Everyone slept until after 7, so what more could we ask for????

We love our Friday nights with the big girl. Zoie requested spaghetti and meatballs for dinner. We played Battleship and she's really getting the hang of it. We're using the game her dad learned to play, box dated 1978. We watched Polar Express and then the bubble bath with bubbles just short of pouring over the side of the tub. Here she's in heaven, watching the movie with Muffiny curled up with her.

After my bath this morning, I came into the TV room to find her in this position watching cartoons. Too funny.

Zoie was a little bummed when we got to the rink to find Vance with his new speed skates. Here Carrie was helping Zoie put on her skates and cheer her up. Little Miss Independent (Arya)was busy, per usual.

Pa wanted to share some of his Asian lunch with Arya. She ate some of the meat, but wasn't excited about the noodles. I love Papa's first try and Arya's response. Head back pretending that this wasn't happening. Then the stretch back as far as she could to stay out of "harms way."

Then it boiled down to "I can do it myself." Love Bill's visual help. Once she shoveled some in, she cleared her plate.

Zoie came to practice tonight. It was interesting to see how Vance responded with his big sis there. Zoie did great job.

Coach Mike started the class with some basic instructions. Vance is the little guy with his hands on his head. That's the silent signal for a potty break. I love it, what a great signal.

Tonight, Ty and I watched as Vance joined the speed skating team at Skagit Skate. He was very excited and did a great job. His coach was thrilled to have him join the team. Vance is the youngest, having just turned four in October. The next boy is five.

Tonight they worked on stamina and both Ty and I were amazed at how hard Vance worked.

Vance has taken to UNO like a duck to water. We play with all cards on the table and Pa and I are amazed at how these wee ones pay attention to what's going on. During the end of one hand today, Vance realized that Pa had an UNO card, a yellow 2 left. Vance had a couple yellow cards and a wild card. He knew if he played one of those yellow cards he was cooked, so he tried to play his wild card out of turn. We finally managed to get him to play and yellow card and accept his loss. Games are so much fun with these kids, especially now that they really can loose without busting out in tears, haha.

This is the closest I've come to capturing this look. He does this all the time, especially when he's intent on selling you something. He's a funny little dude.

Okay, this is something that I can't explain. Vance loves my whole wheat cranberry bread. Yes, Mr. I eat chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, apple sauce and PLAIN NO SPICES FOOD, likes this bread. Yes, it is awesome, but even Mr white bread loves it. We made a loaf to go home today. Both Arya and Vance have to be involved when things are happening in the kitchen.

This pix is from Mimi's phone. She took this on their way back to Everett yesterday. After four hours of serious playing, this is what happened to Emmy, Carson, Connor and Owen. Kaelin is off to the side. Isn't this is priceless?

Pete, Mimi and a five kids came to play on Thursday the 11th. Carrie and the trio came too. It was a riot. Kids flying everywhere.

Carson and Emmy's daddy has been in the hospital with colon cancer. It was diagnosed about two weeks ago. My heart went out to these two. Mimi has been pitching in trying to arrange help from all their friends. There are also two older siblings.

Ta-da, a head stand. We've worked on this for a while and today Vance did it. All of a sudden he understood he needed to use his arms to help keep his balance. It was a hoot and he was very pleased. When we took the kids home, he was able to show Dad his new skill. Needs a bit of help to get in the right position and after that, wa-la.

Vance and I cut up a piece of doweling a couple weeks ago, to make bowling pins. He helped run the radial arm saw and thought that was pretty "cool Oma." On Monday Vance and Arya had a grand time. I love the forth pic. Arya looks like a pro on her approach, but the ball never left her hand. Love their imagination. These two can play and get along pretty darn good.

Today Vance finished his "project." I forgot to get a pic of the cannon last week. It's been fun to watch his progress. The mast, spars and cabin are yellow. The hull is black and of course the main part is blue. Yes blue is his favorite color. Video games are important in our house, as they are at Dunbar. Zoie is pretty good. Vance is quite a pro and by Arya's age he had a good grip on Wii games. Arya is very patient and loves watching. Yesterday I ran across a video of Vance wielding a remote at about 18 months. So, today I started tutoring Arya. We're doing some boxing here. We gave batting a whirl. She seems to like it. Vance is also rather proficient at XBOX. There are a few car races that I don't have to let him win anymore. Fun times at the farm.

Okay, this is what we've looked at for a few months. When I painted the kitchen I did slap a coat of paint on the bare 2x4. I finally decided it was time.

I'm pretty happy with the result. Need to calk the edges, but it looks like someone gives a hoot.

The new spice holder is up and running. The items on the wall are basically the high use items and easy to reach. Things have already been juggled since these pix were taken, but you can get the idea.

Do you have a cabinet like this? Yes, we love spices. About a week ago I emptied this cupboard and attempted to regain some order. Cilantro has been on the board for a few weeks. Lo and behold, I found two unopened jars stashed in here.

We've talked about this idea for sometime and Friday Bill used the stud finder and then I opened up a hole about 14x40 inches. Interior walls can be empty like this one. No wiring, just dead space.

By the end of today I had the cabinet in, stained, shelves installed and finish framing. I need to apply the poly urethane, thus the blue protective masking tape, but I'm almost there.

Catching up

Last Friday night was a Zoie overnighter. Zoie has fallen in love with the headset. We have two new units. One is in the living room, so Papa can crank up the volume to his preferred level and not drive me out of the room. The other set is in the bedroom so I can watch TV without waking Papa. After watching Tinkerbell-The great fairy rescue, it was tub time.

I love to watch how little Arya loves to see what the big kids are doing. I thought this was pretty precious as she watch Vance playing a V-tech game.

Arya is now the proud owner of the froggy raincoat. Of course she hasn't been here when it's raining to try it out.

Vance turned four yesterday. He was with Nana and off to ChuckECheese yesterday. He told her that he didn't want to be four. When she asked why, his answer was, "I want to be five." Whew. We met up with him at the roller rink today. I love his shirt and he was wearing the appropriate shorts, John Deere. We gave him a tracked John Deere. He loved it, but not as much as the money that was in Gramma Alice's card.

We were there to see him receive a skating lesson from Carrie. He can fly forward and backwards. He can "shoot the duck," that's lowering way down and on one skate, jump and all kinds of little tricks.

Zoie enjoys making the fun faces.

We figure presents for the siblings is appropriate. The girls love books and Zoie is into Chapter books. Know what a chapter book is????, that's a book with chapters, duh. Junie B Jones books are a favorite along the Rainbow magic books that Gramma has been finding for her.

We may have a violinist in our future. One of Zoie's friends brought this one to the rink today and Zoie was enthralled.

Then we get to Lil' Bit. Arya is a sweetheart. She loves playing with Pa's hat.

One of her favorite things is saying, "Puppy" and then following with "Meow, meow, meow" to infinity. She knows the difference. Will do the ruff, ruff slowly in emphatically when asked what a doggie says, but for some reason she'll say puppy and walk through the house with the meow, meow. She'll have a sly smile on her face so we think she's just playing with us. We found her a book full of cats and she was in her glory. This one has some pop ups and motions. It was a hit.

The pantry. I should have taken a picture or two of this pantry about 5 hours earlier. Last week I just had it with the lack of order. I was surprised at how much stuff was stashed behind this door. All floor space in the porch area was covered along with the hall to the right heading out the back door. Once the pantry was empty I decided to spray and scrub as a preventative measure. Geez, seemed so simply in the planning stage and actually even at about the mid point of emptying the shelves. By about 3PM my good humor was beginning to fade.

Once I put the last item on the shelf, I was feeling a lot better. I've labeled the shelves, in hopes of being able to put my hands on what I want without loosing control while in search of an item I know should be in there somewhere. Can anyone else relate to this??? The following pix are just proof that the pantry can have order, just like tools etc in the garage. When I get the nerve, I'm tearing apart the spice cabinet. It's another spot that can rub a raw nerve the wrong way.

Vance's tower and project. Vance hadn't built a tower in sometime and then it's the thing to do. Good thing the roost has limited space or who knows, we'd probably have to haul in a ladder.

A couple weeks ago I found some cute little glue and paint projects at Michael's. I wasn't sure how Vance would take to the idea, but he loved it. I couldn't believe that inside the box, everything was included; all pieces cut, paint, glue and sandpaper. They were in a sale bin marked $.99. At the check out they ended up being $.75. Vance was very proud of himself and so was I.

When it was time to paint, Vance chose blue. The one on the box was yellow, but per Vance, "Dad's favorite color is blue."

A day and a night with Arya. Monday morning Carrie and Vance dropped Arya off. Vance went to school with Mom and looked pretty proud of himself in the back of the van. Little Missy came on in and basically just took over the place. We did get a little time to play outside, but it was a wet day. Amazingly, it was warm and very humid. Arya donned her hat as we headed out to the swings. Her idea.

Arya decided that she didn't need any bubbles in her bath. As I was filling the tub, she was standing by the edge in her birthday suit. All of a sudden I realized the floor was getting wet. I looked all around to see where the water was coming from. Well, I finally realized my little "naked jaybird" had sprung a leak. At about 7:45 she was out like a light. What a precious little angel.

This morning she woke at about 7 and was ready for the day. Pa delivered her to the rink at 10 where he turned her over to Nana and Vance.

At night when I'm readying for bed, the girls head to their beds. Penny has deemed the rocking chair hers. Tilly and Muffy normally pick one bed or the other. This bed is usually where we find Muffy. For some reason last night Tilly climbed over the top and I think was planning to move her out. Well, neither was moving to the unoccupied bed. Pretty soon there was some low growling. I flipped on the light, found the camera and couldn't resist these two sisters.

Today was a big day for all. Zoie started 1st grade. Carrie dropped off Vance and Arya at about 9, on her way to Bellingham. We're doing daycare on Monday, Wednesday and every other Friday this year. Amazing how quickly these darling children are growing up. Vance likes his meals at the big table and he's very neat so it works. This morning it was Honeycombs and toast with Nutella.

After breakfast, Arya convinced me to get the wooden shoes down for her to try on. The first pair are about 38 years old. Yes, they were Ty's. A pair Gramma Alice brought back from a trip to Holland. The second larger pair are also Ty's and they were a gift from cousin Alie during a visit to Holland while we were station in Germany in the mid '70's. One of my favorite memories of trips to MN is trying on Gramma Tims' wooden shoes, so this is near and dear to my heart.

Vance is an awesome tower builder and photographer. This is the best tower yet. Vance was too hot, so he discarded his long pants.

When we arrived at Dunbar this afternoon, Ty was there too. We had quite the welcoming committee for Zoie when the bus arrived. She was dressed so cute and she had lots to say about her first day.

Okay, when I asked Ty and the kids to get together for a pic, Vance became his dad. I was laughing so hard I'm surprised the pic turned out. Marisa, bet you can see Ryan in his glory here, haha. Love Zoie's new shoes. She was dressed to the nines.

Boys big and small. After dinner Ty and Vance headed out to the yard. Pretty soon we heard Ty saying something about being stuck. I peeked around the corner of the house and I saw an amazing sight. Ty was part way into the helicopter and it was obvious he was in a predicament. Well, I couldn't get to the camera fast enough.

By the time I got back Ty was crammed in and Vance was beside him. They had a ball.

At the end Ty was cramping up and somehow wiggled out without Bill having get a tool kit and take the helicopter apart.

I can't remember the price I paid for this wagon loaded with large Leggo type blocks. The blocks are fun, but this handleless wagon is a prize. Today everyone got a chance to ride and push. Granted, the two older pushers can make it from one end of the house to the other. Arya on the other hand goes straight and that means the set up is crucial and can end with a crash in a door way. Long after the pix were taken, I realized Zoie had a couple stuffed animals, stuffed in the front of her shirt.

Okay, we don't really use or basically know much about our cellphone. Yesterday morning as I was readying to head out the door I found a voice mail message from ne-few Sean, from Monday. One of those Holy moly moments. Bill tried to call back but only got the answering machine. Zoie was here for a sleep over. She figures she needs to get in time to make up for the fact that she will be spending five full days at school and not at the farm during the week. Really hate trying to compete with a 6 year old mind that can set a trap, lol. About the time we were eating dinner Sean called and they were in Sedro Woolley. Okay, come on over. What a riot. Katie is a doll and Zoie can't stop talking about her new friend. Zoie entertained everyone, to include their friend Alesha until about 9:30. It was great to meet Katie and see that Sean is totally in love with her. Hoping that on a future trip they'll have more time to spend and catch up.

Grant's Blessing

Last Sunday was Grant's Blessing. Here's a pic of him with his parents and grand parents. His Great Grandparents, Aunties and other family members were also there from MN.

OK, here we are at Grant's dedication last Sunday, August 15. That is Aaron's mother Mary from Lexington, KY standing next to him. She brought the jacket Grant was wearing - all of her kids wore it at their baptisms all those years ago - so it was nice to have a family heirloom! Grant weighs nearly 12 pounds already! Diane
